Day 3...The Majestic Grand Tetons

We left Logan, UT around 8 this morning. Everyone was tired from yesterday, so we slept in a bit. At the hotel breakfast met some people from Victorville. There were three older couples traveling together. They looked like they were having fun. I hope that Hal and I will travel like that when we get older.

The drive to the Grand Tetons was pretty amazing. The scenery was specatular. I can even saw that Hal has taken me to Paris and Geneva. Well they are in the state of Idaho, but at least I can say I've been there since a trip to Europe seems like only a pipe dream. Anyhow we got to travel on the Oregon Trail for a while. They kids were super exicted since they have played the computer game and Nick studied this in Fifth grade. This year in school, Haley can say she drove on the trail for about 30 miles. We actually drove in three states today. It was pretty cool. Love the welcome to our state signs. Usually I have to say, "Hal sign!" Then he will slow down. Now he is actually stopping. Yahoo!

Jackson, Wyoming is such a quaint town. There are arches made of elk antlers. We of course took a picture. Nick said he is tired of being in pictures. Typical 13 year old wouldn't you say...buck up buttercup. There are many more pictures to be taken. Driving along the Snake river we saw some white water rafters. We all that it would be fun. Haley was a bit hesitant. She thought we were just going to rent a raft and Hal was going to take us down. Realizing that we would go down with an experienced person, she agreed. There are many signs warning about food storage and bears. Nick was very concerned about a bear attack. As we were driving he said, "Haley did you throw away all of the beef jerky," in a panicky voice. I. of coursed had to laugh and remind Nick and Haley that the bears are not going to jump onto the road and attack the car for anything while we are driving. We are definitely city slickers! Hal and I found our dream summer home. These log cabins, or as Hal and I say castles in the mountains were spectacular. All situated right by Jacksonhole sky resort. Amazing.

The Grand Tetons are majestic! I will try to post some pictures later. We love our little tent cabin. It is quaint and in the woods. The kids can't wait to sleep in there. We booked a scenic float down the Snake river, but we had thunder lightning and rain. So we rescheduled for the 9:15 trip in the morning. We hope to see many animals.

Since our trip got cancelled, we decided to go and find animals. That we did. We have seen elk (sorry no pictures...they were too far away), a moose mother and her calf. It was so amazing. The the piece de resistance....Bison! We saw about 50, maybe even 100. Hal drove like a maniac just to get pictures of two crossing the road. They were magnificent. Had dinner at the Jackson Lake Lodge and saw another moose in the meadow. The lodge has windows about 30 feet high. The view was breathtaking. Got back to the cabin and went to bed around 10:30. It was pretty cozy. Nick wanted to make sure that no bears would come in and attack. With much reassurance and earplugs for me (what's louder Hal snoring or a bear snoring) we went to sleep. We'll see how things pan out in the morning.
